Uber to Invest INR 120 Cr in Haryana to Improve Transport Services in Gurgaon
It has not even been a month since Uber decided to invest in Maharashtra and create jobs for the people in the state, that it announced its investment plans for Haryana as well.
If you stay or work in Gurgaon, you will have noticed coloured flags with the Haryana state boundary sketched on them, on NH8, along with lights to decorate the highway. All this has been done for the investor summit in Haryana from 7-8 August 2016.
‘Happening Haryana’, a Global Investors Summit in Haryana, saw a lot of investments from all over the country for development of Haryana and its smart cities. In the same summit, Uber announced that it will be investing Rs 120 Crore in the state to improve its cab-hailing service and transportation network.
At the event, Vijayendra Kumar, IT Secretary at Government of Haryana, said, “Haryana has been a leader in promoting information technology and we are excited to launch private vehicle ride-sharing to promote urban mobility, prevent pollution and reduce the time spent in traffic in our cities.”
Uber hopes to create a transportation system where people could share rides and not use private vehicles at all. Uber will invest in peer-to-peer transportation and employ the drivers with decent amount of income to compensate for all operating charges.
Last month, Uber had signed an agreement with Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department(SDED) of Maharashtra Government that will help in creation of 75,000 jobs across the state over the next 5 years.
Uber is also planning to aid the Government of Haryana in building its smart cities, which will reduce transportation time in these areas and allow commute to be a breeze. Smart cities have been planned to create a sustainable city for the residents, even if inaccessible from large metropolitans.
The odd-even formula in Delhi was not employable in NCR areas, however Faridabad and Gurgaon need something as effective as that scheme. The Government is planning to increase the reach of the Delhi Metro in Faridabad and Gurgaon, even to Sonipat in another decade or so.
